The Otway Harvest Trail held a degustation lunch as part of the 2011 Melbourne Food & Wine Festival - 100 guests enjoying a 7-course fine-dining meal featuring the produce of the Otways Hinterland for "A Taste of the Otways". And it would seem that the event was a huge success!
The weather was perfect - low 20's, and a beautiful sunny day. Held in the historic Tarndwarncoort homestead, in the gardens between the mansion and the old apple-store/woolshed, the Otway Harvest Trail members put on a magnificent show of what can be found in southwest Victoria only a couple of hours from Melbourne.
I had a wonderful time on Saturday... The food was sensational, the wine brilliant and the company delightful. The setting was so lovely too.
Come and try it for yourself - wineries and cellar doors, cafes and restaurants, breweries, olive groves, seasonal fruit and vegetables, even ostrich leather and Polwarth wool - you'd be surprised at the range of very high quality produce that can be found, and the excellent boutique accommodation that allows you to relax and truly absorb the beauty and the flavour of the region.
